'Panel Show': Comic Book Art at Sunny Bank Mills Gallery

Graphic authors Jade Sarson, Kate Charlesworth, Una and Darryl Cunningham are currently taking part in a comic book art exhibition at Sunny Bank Mills Gallery, alongside Jacky Fleming, Joe Decie, John Pearson, Jonathan Edwards and Mawil.

Kate Charlesworth is a cartoonist and illustrator living and working in Edinburgh, whose graphic memoir, Sensible Footwear: A Girl’s Guide was published by Myriad. It was The Observer’s graphic novel of the month.

Darryl Cunningham is the cartoonist/writer of Psychiatric TalesScience TalesSupercrash: How to Hijack the Global Economy and Graphic Science all fact-based books that  explore subjects as diverse as mental health, science, economics and politics. Artwork from Darryl’s forthcoming title, Billionaires, to be published by Myriad on November 7th, will be exhibited, and advanced copies will be available for sale. Darryl will be a guest at a special edition of Laydeez Do Comics, Laydeez Day Leeds, on Saturday 19th October.

Jade Sarson won the Myriad First Graphic Novel Competition 2014 (with an extract from their book For the Love of God, Marie!) and was also nominated for Best Emerging Talent in the 2013 British Comic Awards.

Una is a comics artist and writer. Her first graphic novel Becoming Unbecoming has been widely translated and was featured on BBC Radio 4 Open Book and Woman’s Hour, Oprah.com and in Newsweek and Elle magazine.

The exhibition will run from 21 September – 10 November.
