Race, Class, and Writing – Decolonising the Publishing Industry with SOAS, University of London.

Drawing together writers and publishers from across career stages, and across the world, this online event will approach how race and class influence and constrain creativity in global publishing. Join renowned Haitian-American author and contributor to New Daughters of Africa, Edwidge Danticat, founder of Wasafiri and editor of Brave New Words, Susheila Nasta, publisher Emma Wallace, and poet Jennifer Wong for a discussion on the way publishing creates, and closes down, space for different identities—and the ways the industry might be changed. Chaired by Malachi McIntosh, editor of Wasafiri magazine.

Margaret Busby is a special guest at the event and will be joining in with the conversation a bit later into the evening.

This event will be held online on Saturday 24 October 2020, running from 19:30 – 21:00. It is part of the Virtual SOAS Festival of Ideas and is free to attend. Please make sure to register in advance HERE.

In support of SOAS and authors Susheila Nasta and Edwige Danticat who are both taking part in this event, we will be donating a copy of Brave New Words or New Daughters of Africa to a SOAS student for every copy of either book you buy via myriadeditions.com.
