Special Shabbat Event: The Book of Sarah at the New London Synagogue

Share

On 14 March 2020 at the New London Synagogue, there will be a serrmon-free service followed by a chance to explore The Book of Sarah with author, Sarah Lightman.

Sarah Lightman is a London-based artist, curator and writer. She completed an Art Foundation course at Central St Martins, attended The Slade School of Art for her BA and MFA, where she won The Slade Prize and The Slade Life Drawing Prize,  and has a PhD from University of Glasgow in women’s autobiographical comics. She has extensively published her research. Her artwork has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally. Distilled from thousands of diary drawings begun in her parents’ garden shed back in 1996, The Book of Sarah traces her journey from modern Jewish orthodoxy to a feminist Judaism, as she searches between the complex layers of family and family history that she inherited and inhabited.

Sarah Lightman is like the poster-child for a new kind of feminist activist— scholar, artist, curator, and cheerleader for comics that reveal and shape new forms of Jewish consciousness.’—Dr Ariel Kahn, Jewish Quarterly
