Short Stories Aloud with Elleke Boehmer at Blackwells Oxford

Head to Blackwells Oxford for their popular event; Short Stories Aloud – the most fun you can have in a bookshop on a Tuesday night.

Professor of World Literature in English at the University of Oxford, founding figure in the field of postcolonial literature and author of To The Volcano and Other Stories, Elleke Boehmer, will attend alongside Julie Mayhew, author of Impossible Causes. After hearing short stories (and eating some cake) there will be questions from Sarah Franklin, Shelter, and the audience.

To the Volcano and Other Stories is a thrilling new collection of short stories by Elleke Boehmer, which  lives across continents from the perspective of the southern hemisphere—its light, its seas, its sensibilities.

From story to story we walk through radically different worlds and journeys packed with hopes and ideals. Sharp, tender, and always arresting, these exquisitely written pieces crackle with luminous insights as characters struggle to come to terms—with their pasts, with one another, and with themselves.

Elleke Boehmer is the author of five novels including ‘Screens against the Sky’ (shortlisted for the David Higham Prize), ‘Bloodlines’ (shortlisted for the Sanlam Prize), ‘Nile Baby’, and ‘The Shouting in the Dark’ (winner of the Olive Schreiner Award for Prose and longlisted for the Sunday Times prize).
