Whether you’re a hoarder, or a ruthless thrower-away of personal memorabilia, this session at The Allbright Club in London is for you. 

Celebrated cartoonist  Kate Charlesworth has been drawing her own story and archiving her activities for as long as she can remember, and the result is Sensible Footwear: A Girl’s Guide,  hailed by the Observer as an instant classic – a personal memoir and a joyous celebration of 70 years of LGBTQ+ lives (with added lesbians) in graphic novel form. Posters, photographs, badges, event tickets, personal letters and diaries – all have found their way into this beautiful shared history. Kate has cartooned for the Guardian, New Scientist and many other publications, and is illustrator of the award-winning Sally Heathcote: Suffragette.  Sensible Footwear has just been longlisted for The Portico Prize, described as ‘the Booker of the North’. 

Jan Pimblett, recently retired from London Metropolitan Archives, is passionate about the importance of documenting personal collections. Full of fascinating stories of Londoners lives based on the LGBTQI collections held at LMA, Jan will be sharing how to look after personal collections and why it is so important to archive ordinary lives. Jan is much in demand as a speaker by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and organisations caring for and sharing personal and community history.  

Kate will present artwork from her book and will be in conversation with Jan, with plenty of time for Q&A on caring for personal archives.
