Graphic novelist Sarah Lightman will be attending Ruhr-University Bochum for an afternoon of events:

2 pm – 3 pm: Drawing Workshop – The drawing workshop will consider how an object becomes site and spring board for the story of self and a revising of family his/herstory, which is a technique Sarah used heavily within her upcoming title, The Book of Sarah.

3.15 pm – 4.45 pm: Artwork Presentation – featuring Beatrice Heindrich

5.15 pm – 6.30 pm: Reading and Discussion of Comics – this will include comics by Diane Noomin, Sharon Rudahl and Ilana Zeffren, referencing the Graphic Details: Confessional Comics by Jewish Women exhibition.

Sarah Lightman is a London-based artist, curator and writer. She completed an Art Foundation course at Central St Martins, attended The Slade School of Art for her BA and MFA, where she won The Slade Prize and The Slade Life Drawing Prize,  and has a PhD from University of Glasgow in women’s autobiographical comics. She has extensively published her research. Her artwork has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally.

Sarah also chairs the Women in Comics Conferences and co-directs Laydeez do Comics with Nicola Streeten. The most influential comics forum in the UK, Laydeez do Comics groups now meet regularly in the US, Ireland and Canada.
