Ruth Figgest and Umi Sinha at Seaford LitFest2020

LitFest2020 is Seaford’s annual celebration of words and music, bringing together writers, musicians and performers, largely from the local area. The festival runs from 28 February – 1 March at The Crypt Gallery, Seaford.

Umi Sinha will be running a joint spoken word session with Ruth Figgest and Wendy Atkinson on the 1 March from 16:00 – 18:30. The authors will be talking about their works-in-progress, followed by a storytelling session (click here for more information).

Umi is author of Belonging, an intense, compelling and finely wrought epic of love and loss, of race and ethnicity, of homeland – and of belonging. It has been listed for several prestigious awards, most notably the Author’s Club Best First Novel Award. Umi is currently working on a new novel set in Italy and India between 1943 and 1948.

Ruth Figgest’s  stories been shortlisted for the Bridport Prize six times—she was awarded 2nd place in 2012 and was Highly Commended in 2017. Another of her stories was shortlisted for the Mslexia short story competition and ‘The Coffin Gate’ was broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Magnetism is her debut novel and was published by Myriad in March 2018.

Fellow Myriad author Nicholas Royle will also be taking part in LitFest2020, sharing his new book, Mother: A Memoir, which we are set publish in May 2020. (Click here for more info on Nicholas’ event.)
