Media Diversified: Free Speech vs. Dissent with Margaret Busby

Share

Media Diversified presents an evening of discussion with author Dr Asim Quershi, activist and academic Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper and editor and publisher Margaret Busby examining the discourse around free speech and the role privilege has to play in the public forum.

In response to the backlash to the initial title of a recent Academy of Ideas panel event, ‘Is rising ethnic diversity a threat to the West?’, Media Diversified looks to examine the current sociopolitical climate that encourages the platforming of ‘extreme’ views, the inequality of so-called ‘free speech’ and how both can be used as tools that suppress writers and voices of colour and dissent whilst privileging the white mainstream media.

With Dr Asim Quershi, author of A Virtue of Disobedience and Rules of the Game, activist and academic Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper and Margaret Busby OBE, editor of new global anthology New Daughters of Africa (Myriad 2019), Media Diversified looks to take this increasingly fraught debate offline and into the real space.

The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A with all involved.

Tickets are £5 and can be purchased online via the Foyles website.
