Emily Bullock will discuss the research and writing process that resulted in her debut novel The Longest Fight.

Emily Bullock will discuss the writing process and the research than went into her debut novel; including how a family connection helped her develop insight into boxing and the 1950s era, how too much research and not enough ‘creativity’ can create problems, and learning to let characters lead their own lives.

Emily Bullock won the Bristol Short Story Prize with her story ‘My Girl’, which was also broadcast on BBC Radio 4. She worked in film before pursuing writing full time. She has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and completed her PhD at the Open University, where she also teaches Creative Writing.
