Myriad crime writer Elizabeth Haynes and graphic novel author Una will take part in a panel event for groundbreaking festival SICK! in Manchester, discussing the difficult subject of abuse. Panelists will question what compels writers to write about painful lives, and readers to read about them.

Elizabeth Haynes is a former police analyst who now writes psychological thrillers which play on the reader’s innermost fears. She has published three books published with Myriad: Human Remains, Into the Darkest Corner and Revenge of the Tide.

Una‘s forthcoming graphic novel, Becoming Unbecoming, explores gender violence, blame, shame and social responsibility and will be published by Myriad later this year.

The panel will include other writers who have survived abuse, novelists for whom abuse surfaces as a theme, and clinicians and academics who deal with the subject both in their writing and their daily practice.
