Dr Ian Williams at dotMD Festival, Galway

Best-selling author and cofounder of Graphic Medicine, Ian Williams will be attending dotMD,  a 2-day festival of curiosity for doctors and healthcare practitioners looking for more from medicine.

Ian’s graphic novel The Bad Doctor was published in 2014 to critical acclaim, causing Alison Bechdel to declare him as “the best thing to happen to medicine since penicillin”.

In his follow-up to The Bad Doctor, The Lady Doctor sees Dr Lois Pritchard working in a local health centre as well as her 2-day-a-week stint at the GUM clinic. From the moment we see Dr Lois nipping out behind the surgery for a fag, we know we are in for a behind-the-scenes warts-and-all comedy drama. Through his graphic novels, Ian explores current medical issues and ethics with his trademark lightness of touch and wonderfully sly sense of humour, using his own experience as a practising GP to recreate the lives of both patients and health service practitioners.

dotMD runs from the 13 – 14 September in Galway. Ian will be taking part in several discussions and events over the course of the weekend.  He has also curated an exhibition of Graphic Medicine at this year’s event.

The festival is now sold out but you email and request to be added to the waiting list.
