Gareth Brookes solo exhibition at WAR Gallery

The art of Gareth Brookes, acclaimed author of A Thousand Coloured Castles and The Black Project, is being celebrated at a solo exhibition in London during August. Brookes, winner of the Myriad First Graphic Novel Competition 2012,  is well-known for his unusual – and time-consuming! – approach to making his books, using methods including embroidery, sewing, lino-cut print, stencilling, crayoning and incorporating pressed flowers ‘to create a disarmingly pretty aesthetic that disguises dark and powerful undercurrents’. Now the WAR Gallery in South East London is giving us a chance to see the embroidered and crayonned range of Gareth’s amazing artwork. Opening night is on 4th August at 6pm and the show runs until August 30th.
