The Power of Silence with Sara Marshall-Ball and Elly Griffiths at Saltdean Library

Debut novelist Sara Marshall-Ball, author of Hush, will join crime-writer Elly Griffiths at Saltdean Library, to discuss the power of secrets in their writing. This is part of the City Reads Brighton 2015 programme.

Hush is the compelling story of adult sisters Lily and Connie Emmett who are haunted by a childhood secret – an event that has seen Lily suffer from selective mutism for many years. Haunting, mysterious and often shocking, the novel explores what happens when we find we cannot speak, even to those we love most.

Elly Griffiths is the author of a successful crime series set in Norfolk, featuring forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway. In the latest instalment, The Ghost Field, Ruth tries to discover the truth about a skeleton discovered inside a downed WWII plane.

Sara and Elly will give readings from their novels and discuss the power of family secrets in their writing. There will also be an audience Q&A and a chance to buy signed copies of the novels.

This is a free event. For details and the full City Reads 2015 programme visit the City Reads website.
